(3) Notübernachtung - The Emergency Night Shelter

Our emergency night reception (in 87 of Prenzlauer Allee, Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg) was created because we wanted to offer a place to sleep to the vendors of the street newspaper who were homeless. This proposition addresses however all those who need a bed. The stay is limited to eight weeks, but can be exceptionally prolonged.

The night shelter provides a dormitory of 11 places for men and another one of 5 places for women. Dogs are accepted. In winter we work with the Winter Dispatcher Service of Berlin (Kältehilfetelefon). With its help we steer people towards other night shelters when we do not have available places left anymore.

As we do not perceive state subsidies to finance this place, we ask the persons for a 1,50-euro participation for a night. Besides a bed we propose:

- The possibility of having a bath or a shower (shower gel, schampoing, necessary of shaving, cremate, are offered free of charge).

- Towels and wash gloves.

- Cupboards to store clothes.

- A free access to Internet.

- The offers of Kaffee Bankrott.

- Counselling and help with authority.

- Assistance in the search for an apartment.

The emergency night reception is opened every day of the week. The admittances are made between 7:00 pm and 11:00 pm. The place must be freed for 10:00 am the next day. The people conducting the permanence are at the disposition of the homeless people from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm for registrations and for any question or advice.

Some rules to be respected to guarantee the good functioning of the emergency night reception:

- No threats and usage of violence.

- No sexual harassment.

- No consumption or ownership of drugs and alcohol in our premises.

- Smoking is banned in the rooms.

- Silence from midnight.
